Reduces Form Factor by 30%, Maximizes Pin Count
These next generation miniature connectors are designed to reduce the size by nearly 30%, while still providing maximum signal reliability. The new "mini" connector is a product extension of Smiths Interconnect popular circular push-button D Series connector design. As the demand across industries increase for miniaturization, the company plans include the launch of additional miniature products including HyperGrip®, Smiths Interconnect standard medical circular connector design.
The Smiths Interconnect mini connectors incorporate the ultra reliable Hypertac® hyperboloid contact in a smaller 0.3 mm pin size, creating a significantly smaller form factor while maintaining 5 signal contacts rated at 1A each, with a dielectric withstanding voltage rating of 750V. The new design maintains the same reliable electromechanical performance characteristics of all Hypertac contacts: high cycle life, low contact resistance, low insertion/extraction force and resistance to shock & vibration but now meet industry's increased demands for miniaturization and higher density.
"Industry trends towards product miniaturization and product integration are more significant than ever as manufacturers continue to create more sophisticated products with higher levels of data acquisition and signal processing," states Vadim Radunsky, President, Smiths Interconnect. "The new mini connector series is designed to be both rugged and versatile in order to meet the increased functionality requirements for today's more advanced systems."
The easy-to-assemble mini D series incorporates the familiar push-button latch for simple operation while alignment and polarization are provided by the distinctive housing design. The plugs are available with crimp termination, which can also be soldered, accommodating up to 24 AWG wire. The receptacles will be available with 6 inch [15.24mm] pigtails as standard with optional custom lengths and board terminations available.
The mini D series product is used in medical equipment such as monitors, therapeutic devices, imaging, and invasive probes. With the size of medical systems becoming smaller, the miniatures will offer the ability to create an overall smaller device that results in more comfort and portability for patients.
